CURRICULUM
The curriculum for all toddlers is the Sing, Spell, Read and Write
Curriculum. It is a unique and innovative instructional system that coordinates
the teaching of seven complete programs in one: Reading, Writing, Phonics, Spelling Grammar,
Comprehension and Math. The lessons
present an orderly sequence of multi-sensory instruction designed to reach every
avenue of the brain and to actively involve students in learning.
The curriculum for all preschool children is the Core Knowledge Curriculum.
The Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence starts with the premise that
children are always "ready to learn," Preschoolers build new knowledge and
skills based on what they have already learned. A specific, explicit sequence of
skills and knowledge, such as the Preschool Sequence, allows teachers to
guide a young child's development in an apprentice-like fashion. Taking into
account the child's particular competencies, a teacher can then offer those
experiences that most closely match a student's present level, while providing
the stepping stones needed to advance to higher levels of understanding and
competence.
To sum up, the content of the Preschool Sequence
is:
-
Solid
— It is a comprehensive preschool curriculum that addresses all facets of
early childhood development.
-
Specific
— It identifies explicit skills and knowledge that are critical to a young
child's development, in terms of "readiness to learn".
-
Sequenced
— It presents skills and knowledge that progress from very basic to more
challenging, so that children build new knowledge and skills based on what
they have already learned.
-
Shared
— It represents shared knowledge. Only by explicitly specifying the
competencies and
knowledge that all children should share can we ensure access to an excellent
and fair education for all.
It is a unique and innovative instructional system that coordinates the teaching

Both curriculums goes hand in hand with the Arkansas Early Childhood Framework.
The Framework promotes four elements that are essential to quality early
childhood education; environment, diversity, family and strategies that support
learning. Lil’
Treasures
Learning
Academy
has incorporated these elements in our everyday teaching by providing balanced
literacy opportunities learned through Pre-K Ella.
We build on children’s experiences and knowledge of the world through
learning centers and different weekly thematic units.
For example, dramatic play, where children are encouraged to put on
puppet shows or dress up in customs to role play. Basic Spanish is taught to the
older toddler and preschool children. We promote phonological awareness through
environmental print and teach children to recite and recognize alphabets as well
as phonetic decoding.
